HOW THE LIBRARY WORKS:
The library has a icon-based main menu to quickly take you to sections of the
library (Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Books, Magazines, Images, Safe
Searches, Elementary, Museums and Resources.
When you click on an Icon, that information appears in the main window.
DESIGN OF THE SITE:
The site was designed for the classroom, with animated menu icons that control
sections of the library. These section pages appear in an in-line frame
within the web page. This helps keep children on task and saves
instructional time.
TIP: Make sure you tell children that there are two scroll bars, one on
the outside of the web page and one for the section pages displayed in the
in-line frame.

USING ONLINE TEXT IN THE CLASSROOM:
Books in electronic text make it easy for teachers to share literature with
students. Imagine being able to COPY and PASTE a portion of
Shakespeare to illustrate the beauty of language.
Below is an example of a public domain story by Benjamin Franklin. It
was copied and pasted into a word processor and then the text was enlarged
for readability. Then a picture was added to help students to
visualize what Ben Franklin looked like.

CREATING A MULTIMEDIA BOOK WITH E-TEXT
A Visit to the book section, Classic Literature, selecting from Aesop's Fables
the story of the DOG and THE SHADOW. Copy and Paste the e-text into
PowerPoint, add pictures, add audio files and you have created a multimedia
book to share with early readers. The audio files help struggling
readers, allowing then to see and hear the words.
I used Camtasia Studio to create a
flash movie for the web.
The audio files were created with the
AT & T text to
speech project.
